Toenail Fungus: What to Wear

(800) 672-0625

People with toenail fungus are often embarrassed to let other people see their feet. Toenail fungus can be pretty ugly to look at so this is a natural emotion. However, as a result of this embarrassment, people with toenail fungus tend to keep their feet hidden by wearing closed toe shoes. This is actually the opposite of what they should be doing. If you have toenail fungus, wearing closed toe shoes could actually keep moisture inside of your shoes, allowing your fungus to spread further.
This may be embarrassing, but instead of keeping your toes bottled up, let them breathe, even when you’re around other people. By wearing flip flops or sandals instead of closed toe shoes, it will be more difficult for your toenail fungus to spread to your other toes. This doesn’t mean that it won’t happen, but it will decrease the chances.
If you absolutely must wear closed toe shoes, make sure you wear socks with them. The worst thing you can do if you have toenail fungus is to wear closed toe shoes without anything to help keep the moisture away. If you can, try to find socks that actually wick the moisture away. But again, even these socks aren’t as helpful as sandals or flip flops.
The best thing you can do is find a treatment option to get rid of your toenail fungus. Wearing flip flops or sandals will help keep your fungus from spreading, but no footwear will make your toenail fungus go away.
